“The results of the primary election are in: Our campaign is heading into the first run-off election in over forty years! We are excited about the results of the primary election – the thirty-seven year incumbent judge received only 37.6% of the total vote, I received 36.2% (approximately 200 votes separated us), and the rest of the vote was split between the other candidates. This means that over 62% of Knoxville voted for a change in their City Court.
These numbers confirm what I heard all summer while knocking on doors across Knoxville: After thirty-seven years of the same judge, people are excited for a change in their City Court.
My background is in guiding people through the justice system. As a former Public Defender, and now in private practice, I have represented hundreds of people at all stages of the criminal justice process – from general sessions court through appeals at the state and federal levels. I also currently teach as an adjunct professor in the UT Legal Clinic.
My goal is to lead the Court into its next chapter by embracing technology, increasing the accessibility and transparency of the Court, and by recognizing the social issues that the Court can positively influence to improve our community.
